How To Hide Sensitive Information

Hide sensitive details during capture or in editing. Use Magic Blur for automatic redaction, or apply it manually to protect your content.

Magic & Manual Blur: Before or While Capturing a Video

1. Magic Blur

While recording with the Guidde extension, you can use the Magic Blur feature to automatically identify and blur personal information such as:

  • Email addresses

  • Images

  • Currencies

  • Phone numbers

  • Date and Time

  • IP Addresses

  • General Numbers

    This tool ensures seamless and customized privacy protection as you capture your process.

Available on: Enterprise plan

Only available when recording on a browser with the Guidde extension.

1. While capturing, pause the recording from the recording panel. If it’s hidden, click the extension icon to open it. You can pause before starting or anytime during your recording.

2. Click the Blur icon in the recording panel.

3. Select the categories you want to blur by checking the boxes. Magic Blur will automatically detect and obscure the chosen information in your video.

2. Manual Blur

Manual Blur lets you select on-screen elements to hide during capture, giving you full control to redact only what you want.

Available on: Business plan, Enterprise plan

Only available when recording on a browser with the Guidde extension.

1. While capturing, pause the recording from the recording panel. If it’s hidden, click the extension icon to open it. You can pause before starting or anytime during your recording.

2. Click the Blur icon in the recording panel.

3. Click "Manually Select" at the bottom of the drop down menu.

4. Click on the items you want to blur on screen.

5. Once you're ready, click "Resume Recording" and the blurred areas will remain blurred as you continue capturing your workflow.

Note: If you navigate to a new screen, pause the recording again and repeat the process.

Capture Across Browser Tabs with Manual Blur

To continue recording while switching between browser tabs with manual blur applied, use the Guidde recording panel to pause and resume your capture.

1. Start capturing your process on the first tab.

2. When you're ready to switch tabs, open the capture panel and click "Pause".

You can open it by:

  • Clicking the “g” icon at the bottom-left of your screen.

  • Or, clicking the pinned Guidde extension in your browser.

3. Switch to the new tab and click anywhere on the screen. When you're ready, click the red circle button in the recording panel to resume capturing steps in the new tab.

3. Blur Effect

In the video editor, applying the Blur Effect allows you to manually hide sensitive content on any step of your video after recording. This tool is perfect for ensuring privacy even post-capture, and gives you precise control over what is visible.

Available on: Pro plan, Business plan, Enterprise plan

To add a blur effect to a step, while in Edit mode, navigate to the Elements section in the left side panel, and click on "Blur".

A rectangle blur effect will be added, you can resize it and move it to hide what you need in the step.

You can add the blur effect to all kinds of added steps, including images, files, inserted clips and videos.

  • When adding the blur effect to a video step, note that it'll stay static and not move while the video is playing.

If you want to blur the same area in all steps, right-click on the blur effect and then "apply to all steps".

Click on the blur effect, and then click the trash bin icon to delete the it.

4. Overlay Effect

The Overlay Effect enables you to dim the background and highlight key elements while reducing visual distractions.

Available on: All plans
Not available: on added Images

While in Edit Mode, navigate to the Elements section on the left side panel and click on "Overlay".

Adding a Spotlight

You can now add a circle or a rectangle shape from the elements section, and click the Spotlight button to clear the overlay inside it, directing the viewer’s attention to the area you want to highlight.

Available: only when using the circle and rectangle shapes
Not available: when using other shapes, and on added images and video steps

To remove an overlay, click on it and then click on the trash bin icon at the top left.

By combining these tools, you can create guides that are not only clear and engaging but also respectful of privacy standards and customer trust.
